Personality: Gamabunta is a grumpy and highly apathetic toad. He does not like to take orders from anyone, unless the summoner is highly talented and earns his respect. Jiraiya, Naruto and the Fourth Hokage are three of the few people that he has allowed to ride on top of his head without question. While he is quite confident of his abilities as a fighter, he is well aware of his limitations and perceptive of the power of his enemies, shown in his reluctance to confront tailed beasts (the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox and the One-Tailed Shukaku) head-on.

He speaks in Hiroshima dialect and uses some Japanese words that only a yakuza gangster would use, but he is portrayed as an ultimately powerful and positive force. He is fiercely protective of his kin, where in one instant only decided to fight Shukaku after hearing the opponent attacked his children despite believing it to be suicidal only moments before. He hates to be underestimated by anyone, both of which take precedence over his normal apathy. Often, it is one or a combination of these two factors that entices him to fight.

Overall, despite his grumpy exterior, he shows sympathy to Naruto as if he were a son. He even explained to Jiraiya that he was aware of Naruto's talents and potential. He and Jiraiya seemed to be good friends and, as implied in the series, drinking buddies, despite Jiraiya's admitted lack of control over Gamabunta. However, he would scold him on occasion.


Background: Gamabunta made his Part II debut when Naruto was informed of Jiraiya's death.

Gamaken, Gamabunta, Gamakichi, Naruto, Fukasaku, and Gamahiro being summoned to Konoha to fight Pain.
Added by DeathBlade182Gamabunta, along with Gamakichi, Gamaken, Gamahiro, Fukasaku and Naruto were later summoned to Konohagakure by Shima to assist in the fight against Pain. They combated the various animals summoned by the Animal Path where Gamabunta silenced the large dog summon after he landed on top of it.[1] After Naruto used his Wind Release: Rasenshuriken technique he began to run low on Sage chakra but still wanted to take out one more Pain before he ran out. Seeing as the three toads were being pinned down by the many summons, Gamabunta swallowed Naruto and the Animal Path, so that Naruto could kill it without the disturbance from the other Pains, while Gamabunta kept off the remaining Pains.

After he spat out Naruto and the Animal Path, the summons disappeared, but Naruto was also out of Sage chakra now.[2] Seeing this, the Deva Path saw his chance to attack and even avoided Gamabunta's attack with his knife, landing right in front of Naruto. As Naruto fought the Deva Path, Gamabunta called for Naruto to get out of the way as Gamabunta himself would attack, only for Naruto to tell him the same as he would go into Sage Mode again and did not want him to be caught by his Rasenshuriken. Although Gamabunta still attacked, the Deva Path avoided the attack once again.[3]

After Naruto killed the Naraka Path the Deva Path finally recovered it's gravitational manipulating abilities and pushed the attacking Naruto away. Gamabunta and the other toads proceeded to attack Pain with their weapons, but he easily avoided them.[4] The three toads then tried to attack Pain again, but he appeared in the middle of the three and used his Shinra Tensei to send them flying out of Konoha's borders.[5]

As he lay sprawled on the forest, he stated that it felt like all of his bones were broken. Gamabunta was later seen seemingly unconscious on the road back to Konoha by Neji with his Byakugan, who referred to Gamabunta as one of Jiraiya's toads.[6] He told Team Guy that Pain had attacked Konoha when they approached him.

Name: Water Bullet
Type: Ninjutsu

Desription: The user kneads chakra, and converts it into water, and then spits it out in the form of condensed balls. The high-speed waterball attack possesses just as much power to kill as an actual gunshot. While this is a water release technique, it can still be employed someplace where no water is available, which is a great advantage. It's also possible to increase the power of destruction of the balls themselves by building up the chakra inside of them. The number of bullets is determined while kneading chakra. By taking advantage of gravity, the bullets can brutally increase in power. With a user the size of Gamabunta, the bullets can actually be more like cannonballs, furthering

Name: Toad Oil Bullet

Desription: The user converts their chakra into an extremely sticky oil and spits this out as a huge mass. When this oil touches the target, their entire body is covered, and it prevents them from moving. Simply washing the oil away with regular water wouldn't be easy. Furthermore, if a Fire Release technique is thrown at the target after this technique is used, they will be enveloped in flames in an instant.

Desription: technique only a Toad can use, by employing its characteristic bodily features. Its strong hips and legs give birth to an uncommonly precise leap, with which it slices at its target. Since the interval is covered in the blink of an eye, the opponent can't even try to escape. Gamabunta uses this together with his huge dosu (Yakuza sword).


Name: Fire Release: Toad Oil Flame Bullet

Desription: Fire Release: Toad Oil Flame Bullet is a two-way collaboration jutsu. Gamabunta will use Toad Oil Bullet to shoot a jet of oil from his mouth. His summoner then ignites the oil. Jiraiya uses Fire Release: Flame Bullet for this purpose, while Naruto, knowing no Fire Release ninjutsu and needing an ignition source, substituted an exploding tag instead. The oil, acting as an accelerant, provides more fuel for the fire in an effect like a flamethrower, and creating an conflagration of far greater power and magnitude than the original fire ninjutsu used on its own could have.

Desription: An advanced form of the Transformation Technique, the Combination Transformation transforms two users into one being. One user usually provides the chakra while the other performs the necessary hand seals. Naruto used this with Gamabunta in their fight against Gaara's full Shukaku form to assume the appearance of a giant fox (the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox in the anime). The Sound Four used this during the Chūnin Exam Arc to disguise themselves as the Fourth Kazekage's bodyguards (two in each). Kiba and Akamaru created their own variation of this technique with the Human Beast Combination Transformation: Double-Headed Wolf.

Background: Gamahiro made his Part II debut when he, along with Gamaken and Gamabunta, were summoned to assist in Naruto's fight with Pain. They fought the various animals summoned by the Animal Path until they were sent flying beyond Konoha's borders by the Deva Path's Shinra Tensei technique. After the battle, he is last seen lying at the bottom of a lake.

Gamahiro was later summoned to the battlefield by Naruto to crush a mutated White Zetsu Army clone. Naruto then left him on lookout while he deployed his clones all over the battlefield.

Name: Gamaken

Personality: Gamaken is very modest. He is constantly referring to how clumsy he is, and often seems nervous. While fighting the Animal Path's summons during Pain's invasion, he once again states how ungraceful he is to Gamabunta. Despite this, he has shown no signs of being anymore clumsy or "ungraceful" than other toads in the series, albeit he also says that he will always do his best. His nickname "Ken-san" gives him a sense of reliability like that of someone who will definitely be there for a timely rescue when in dire straits

Background: He was first summoned by Jiraiya when he was facing the Akatsuki leader Pain and decided to use the Sage Mode. However, in order to use Sage Mode, it would take him some time to prepare it, and he could not afford to take the risk of leaving himself unprotected, so he summoned Gamaken. During the time it took for Jiraiya to prepare the technique, Gamaken was forced to face off with a great variety of Pain's animal summons, and was kicked back and forth throughout the tower they were in until he was pushed into a sewer, after which Jiraiya then told him to return as he had finally finished the preparation for his technique.

Name: Gamakichi

Personality: is rather funny, and has the mannerisms of a smart-alec. He is also often very condescending as well as light-hearted in most situations, preferring the levity of talk to the seriousness of battle. He seems to favour Naruto because he saved him from Gaara in his miniature Shukaku form. After he is summoned he tends to greet people by saying, "Yo (in English dub, Hey)."

In Part II, Gamakichi has not just grown in size but in maturity as well. Gamakichi seems to have a considerably large amount of knowledge when it comes to human-toad combination jutsu and nature energy. Also, he seems to be on better terms with his brother, Gamatatsu, as shown by him no longer calling him an idiot.


Background: Although he did not have his Part II debut until much later in the manga, Gamakichi appeared sooner in the anime adaptation. Noticeably, Gamakichi was not yet as big as he would be in his manga debut, by which time he would be big enough for Naruto to stand on his head. In his anime debut, Gamakichi was easily big enough for Naruto to stand on his back.

When Naruto proved incapable of synchronizing with Gamariki to learn collaboration jutsu, Naruto decided to summon Gamakichi and Gamatatsu, as he had worked well with them before. After successfully synchronizing with them, Naruto learned that neither of them had any skill in Water Release jutsu. With Naruto's help and lessons from their father, Gamakichi teaches the basics of Water Release to Gamatatsu.

Later, when Team Yamato found it impossible to break through Guren's crystal barrier via conventional means, Naruto summoned Gamakichi and Gamatatsu to help. Gamakichi kept Gamatatsu focused by warning him that he wouldn't get any snacks if he didn't focus on the task at hand. This enables Gamatatsu to break through the barrier, after which they return to Mount Myōboku. To their annoyance, however, Naruto keeps summoning them again, both to combat Team Guren and the Three-Tails. While fighting the latter, Gamakichi pointed out that their Water Release jutsu would be ineffective against its own water-based abilities. Naruto lamented the fact that they had no Fire Release jutsu at their disposal to evaporate the beast's water, but Gamakichi pointed out that he could perform Fire Release: Flame Bullet.

After sending Gamatatsu back briefly to Mount Myōboku to bring back a stomachful of toad oil, Naruto, Gamatatsu, and Gamakichi combined their jutsu to create the Wind Release: Toad Oil Flame Bullet. The resulting inferno drove through the Three-Tails' water attack and had the turtle demon fleeing under the lake's surface. Once the Three-Tails had been overcome, Gamakichi and Gamatatsu went back home.

Desription: The Wind Release: Toad Oil Flame Bullet jutsu is a three-way synchronised collaboration technique between Naruto, Gamatatsu, and Gamakichi. It is an expansion on the Wind Release: Toad Oil Bullet technique. After Naruto enhances Gamatatsu's Toad Oil Bullet with his wind-natured chakra, Gamakichi steps in and uses his Fire Release: Flame Bullet technique to ignite the oil. The wind not only improves the oil's coverage and distance, but also adds power to the flame. Using this technique they were able to knock out the Three-Tails.

Name: Fire Release: Flame Bullet

Desription: The Fire Release: Flame Bullet technique is executed by the user gathering oil in their mouth which is created by chakra, spitting it out, and igniting it. This technique simply shoots a flame bullet at the enemy. If the amount of oil that is prepared is kept down, the time it takes to invoke the technique is reduced. This allows the enemy to be stricken unaware, allowing the oil-containing flame bullet to burn them up completely. It is also possible to shoot out a series of flame bullets by partitioning the oil. If this technique is fired after covering the enemy with oil using the Toad Oil Bullet, it has the power to wound or kill. This also keeps down the consumption of chakra.

Personality: Fukasaku, like his wife Shima, is considered old and wise, and is greatly respected by all who know them well enough. In reality, he constantly bickers with Shima over small things when they should focus on the bigger picture, such as the fact that a battle will cause them to miss dinner.[1] They are still close, as Shima is heartbroken after Fukasaku is killed by Pain.

It would seem that only Fukasaku can remain serious in even the worst situation, while Shima will constantly find a way to bicker with Fukasaku. She, similarly, does not have enough respect for the Great Toad Sage, calling him senile for constantly forgetting everything.[2]

Fukasaku and Shima both seem to like Naruto. Fukasaku met Naruto for the first time when he brought the news of Jiraiya's death to Konoha. He found Naruto's nickname for Jiraiya ("Pervy Sage") to be both very fitting and very funny, but observed that Naruto, as he was, would not stand a chance against Pain, and offered to take Naruto away to learn senjutsu at Mount Myōboku. After what was (for Naruto) a confusing introduction to sensing natural energy and drawing it in to blend senjutsu chakra, Fukasaku, in light of Naruto's rapid progress, believed that Naruto would surpass Jiraiya in power.


Background: While Naruto continued trying to find an alternative, Fukasaku was informed of Kōsuke's death, indicating something was happening in Konoha. Shima, who was shopping near Konoha, also noticed that something was wrong in the village. She summoned Naruto, Fukasaku, Gamaken, Gamabunta, Gamakichi, and Gamahiro to Konoha's centre moments after Pain destroyed the village. As Naruto engaged Pain, Shima and Fukasaku provided assistance, dealing with the Animal Path's summons. They were amazed by his perfected Wind Release: Rasenshuriken, something he had not shown them during his training, but were again forced to deal with the Animal Path.

Knowing that the Animal Path must be gotten rid of, Shima coated the area in a dust cloud while Fukasaku threw Gamabunta at the path, giving Naruto an opportunity to finish it off. Pain was soon left with only one body, and Shima and Fukasaku tried once again to use a genjutsu to defeat it. Pain killed Fukasaku and knocks Shima away before they had a chance. Their bodies were later found and Shima, once healed, wept for Fukasaku. When Pain was defeated, and subsequently chose to revive everyone he had killed, Fukasaku was brought back to life, to Shima's shock and surprise. Later, Shima and Fukasaku were both seen together, standing atop Gamakichi's head and watching from a distance as the population of Konoha welcomed Naruto back.

Name: Demonic Illusion: Toad Confrontation Singing

Desription: This is a sound-based genjutsu passed down on Mount Myōboku. Because learning it requires many long years of training, only the Two Great Sage Toads, Fukasaku and Shima, have the skills to perform it. It is said to be the most powerful genjutsu in their arsenal. It is immensely powerful and only has to reach the target's sense of hearing to be a success. Even if there are several hundred targets, they are completely disconnected from each other. Inside the genjutsu world, the targets are surrounded from all sides by four toad samurai, with their mind and body completely sealed between their hands in an illusionary cube of water. The four unmoving toads won't lift the complete binding until the user gives the order.

After the enemies have been caught in the genjutsu, all that is left to do is to strike the finishing blow in the real world, with Mount Myōboku's secret Stone Swords (石剣, Ishiken) which are driven into the targets' hearts like a wedge.

Despite this technique's great power, it takes some time for the users to synchronize melodies, and since it uses sound, it gives away their location, allowing opponents to attack them while it is being prepared. It also makes Shima and Fukasaku's throats dry, meaning it cannot be used repeatedly.

Desription: By kneading senjutsu chakra, Fukasaku's long tongue gains utmost solidity and sharpness. It then leaps from his mouth with tremendous speed and force, even tearing a hole in the bedrock and through metal pipes. With that ground-splitting power, the enemy is cut in half. The way that both the enemy and the ground itself are cut apart is reminiscent of the strike of a great sword.

In the anime, Fukasaku actually fires a highly pressurized stream of water from his mouth capable of even slicing through metal like Sasori's Water Stream Shooters that can cut through metal pipes.

Desription: The Frog Kata is a fighting style used exclusively by those who have mastered Sage Mode. The senjutsu chakra used during Sage Mode activates the body in various ways, enhancing the user's speed, strength, stamina and durability. This allows a Sage to do incredible feats which include leaping great distances, shattering sharp materials with their hands, as well as lifting objects several times their size.

In Frog Kata, the natural energy used by the practitioner to create senjutsu chakra, also encapsulates the user as an aura of natural energy. This aura can act as an extension of their body and cannot be seen by anyone other than those who have trained in senjutsu. By utilizing the aura, the user can extend the range and force of their physical attacks. Strikes that seemingly or would normally miss will actually make contact with the target. One punch has been shown to have enough force to cripple and completely finish off an opponent.

Personality: Shima is considered open-hearted and her personality allows her to see everything with great clarity. Because of this, she is adored by all toads as the "Mother of the Toad Way" (蝦蟇道の母, Gamadō no Haha).[1] She is greatly respected because of her old age and wisdom, but she still manages to bicker with her husband over small things like missing dinner.[2] Despite this constant bickering, she loves Fukasaku very much, calling him "Dad" (父ちゃん, Tō-chan) as is common among Japanese wives. She was devastated when she saw Fukasaku get killed by Pain. Although highly respected, she herself seems to be lacking respect somewhat, most evident in her calling the Great Toad Sage a senile old man.[3]

Shima seemed to have been fond of Jiraiya and similarly was very welcoming to his pupil, Naruto, when he first went to Mount Myōboku to train, 'pulling out all the stops' at her and Fukasaku's home. During the Battle of Konoha, after Pain had stabbed Fukasaku and pinned Naruto to the ground through his hands, Shima called to Naruto not to give up since both Jiraiya and Fukasaku had given their lives because they believed in Naruto, and, if he gave up then, she'd never forgive him.


Background: While Naruto learns senjutsu from Fukasaku, Shima happily provides him with meals (unaware that her choice of food makes him sick). While restocking her supplies near Konoha, Shima noticed that something was wrong in the village. She summoned Naruto, Fukasaku, Gamaken, Gamabunta, Gamakichi, and Gamahiro to Konoha's centre moments after Pain destroyed the village. As Naruto engaged Pain, Shima and Fukasaku provided assistance, dealing with the Animal Path's summons. They were amazed by his perfected Wind Release: Rasenshuriken, something he had not shown them during his training, but were again forced to deal with the Animal Path.

Desription: After focusing senjutsu chakra to her tongue it grows to its maximum limit and has been reshaped with a face. The tongue will then seek out the scent of its target. When the target is found, she ensnares it to prevent escape and marks it with a corrosive chemical. Shima uses this to find Pain's camouflaged Giant Chameleon, allowing Fukasaku to use Fighting Tongue Slash on it.

Desription: The Summoning Technique is a space–time ninjutsu that allows the summoner to transport animals or other things across long distances instantly.

One method involves just hand seals and blood. Personality: He seemed to be a very happy and cheerful toad, and took orders without hesitation.

Background: When Naruto Uzumaki goes to Mount Myōboku to train, Kōsuke is left in Konoha to become a sort of emissary between the toads and the Hidden Leaf Village. He was placed under the direct command of Tsunade, so that she may contact Naruto if trouble ever arose. When Pain finally attacks, Kōsuke is killed by Danzō before he can return to Mount Myōboku so that Naruto will not know to come back. Danzō does this to prevent Naruto from interfering; part of his coup d'état to over throw the Hokage and gain control over the village. Naruto eventually finds out anyway when the toads notice Kōsuke's name missing from the toad summoning contract.

After Nagato used Outer Path: Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique, Kōsuke's status remains unknown.
